National apex body that formulates, coordinates and promotes biomedical and public-health research through a network of national institutes and regional centres. Research priorities address national health needs—communicable and non‑communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, environmental/occupational health, mental health and drug research (including traditional remedies).
